Role focus This is a senior product design role within a Wellington-based organisation delivering complex digital work for a range of clients. The role suits someone who enjoys being hands-on in delivery and comfortable working closely with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
The work spans UX, product thinking, visual design, and a degree of business analysis, with a strong client-facing component. You’ll lead design across challenging engagements, helping shape user experiences, flows, and functionality while guiding conversations and decisions along the way.
What you’ll be responsible for - Leading product design work across complex, multi-disciplinary engagements
- Defining user journeys, interactions, and functionality from early discovery through to delivery
- Working closely with developers and delivery managers to ensure designs are practical and buildable
- Explaining design decisions clearly and influencing stakeholders through research and rationale
- Contributing to discovery, research, and early-stage product definition
- Producing high-quality design work with strong attention to detail and consistency
- Using modern design tools and workflows to support speed and quality in delivery
Background and profile This role suits an experienced product or digital designer who is comfortable taking responsibility and guiding work forward in a Wellington-based delivery environment.
You’re likely to bring:
- 5 plus years experience in product or digital design
- Strong UX and product thinking, backed by high-quality visual design
- Experience designing and delivering real products in complex or consultative settings
- Confidence presenting work and discussing trade-offs with clients or senior stakeholders
- The ability to challenge assumptions respectfully and constructively
- A reflective approach to your work and a clear way of explaining how you think
You’re comfortable working directly with clients, adapt your communication style easily, and understand that good design involves judgement as much as execution.
Design and technical capability You’ll be comfortable with modern design practice, including:
- Advanced use of Figma for component-based design, auto layout, variables, and interactive prototypes
- Experience contributing to and maintaining design systems
- A solid grounding in UX fundamentals such as accessibility, interaction design, and information architecture
- Enough technical understanding to design within real constraints and collaborate effectively with engineers
- Experience running or contributing to user research when it adds value
Approach to tools and ways of workingYou’re curious about new tools and evolving practices and open to experimenting where it makes sense. You’re thoughtful about when new approaches genuinely improve quality or efficiency, and when simpler methods are more appropriate.
What will set you apart - Comfort taking the lead and making decisions
- Ability to work independently under pressure without losing quality
- A balanced approach to speed and craft
- A collaborative mindset and willingness to support others
- A proactive approach to improving how design work is done
