We’re working with a client who is a fast-moving startup building a modern software platform, and they’re looking for a Head of Engineering to lead their growing team.

This is an opportunity to step into a role where you’ll shape the engineering culture, scale the function into Australia, and have a direct hand in how the product and team evolve.

What you’ll be doing
  • Lead and grow the function - support, mentor, and guide engineers while building capability and structure for the next stage of growth.
  • Drive roadmap delivery - work closely with founders and leadership to ensure technical execution stays aligned with business goals and customer needs.
  • Shape architecture and delivery - balance immediate delivery with long-term planning, ensuring the platform can scale effectively.
  • Champion excellence - instill practices that strengthen quality, reliability, and developer experience.
  • Build for scale - play a key role in expanding the engineering team across New Zealand and into Australia.
What you’ll bring
  • Proven experience leading or mentoring engineering teams, ideally in a startup or high-growth environment.
  • A leadership style that builds trust, supports autonomy, and encourages accountability.
  • Comfort working directly with founders or senior leaders to influence strategy and product direction.
  • The ability to bring structure without unnecessary process, keeping the team focused and moving forward.
  • A collaborative, pragmatic mindset with a passion for building both people and product.
