Welcome to Talent Army - Edwin 'Ted' Tait
As Talent Army continues to grow we could probably hire another 5 recruiters across Auckland and Wellington and so if you are interested to chat with me. Please get in touch.
It's not often that I get an e-mail from someone outside of the industry that impressed me as much as the one Ted sent me.
Basically, he saw the job posting of our Talent Manager role and it somewhat called him. He did not however apply like most people and spent the extra time to track down my direct contact details and e-mail me personally. I received this e-mail about 7pm at night on my phone and had the time to read it over and was also drawn to Ted.
I invited him to come in the next day and after chatting with him for 20 minutes I just knew we would hire him. He was initially a designer working across both graphic and UI and then moved into sales in the tech startup industry in Canada.
After interviewing a bunch of recruiters who just didn't feel like they truly wanted to give candidates a great experience, I met Ted and instantly knew he would.
I ultimately hired him as my personal Talent Manager helping me with my clients and he has already brought a heap of enthusiasm and energy to the team.
While he has a lot to learn, I just know he will be great.
I asked him a few questions and you can find them below.
Troy: Ted, so great to have you on the team. Please tell us a little about yourself outside of work?
Ted: I am a Canadian enjoying your beautiful country. I have many hobbies, from painting, and design, to boxing, and hockey. Lately I have been trying to educate myself on New Zealand rugby, and cricket. High energy, super positive, and have a love for awful jokes, and terrible puns.
Troy: Please tell us a little about your work and what you have done?
Ted: Before traveling New Zealand I had been working inside sales, and business development for an IT infrastructure reseller in Calgary Alberta. Along with sales, I was also freelance design for professional boxers and mixed martial arts promotions (I like to stay busy). Transitioning into the IT recruitment business is a very exciting leap, but not one I am totally unfamiliar with, and I am looking forward to help land clients roles that will benefit both sides.
Troy: Why did you join Talent Army?
Ted: I was looking for an industry that I was familiar with, but was also new at the same time. I love helping people out, and I cant wait to help people land their dream job.
Troy: Why do your candidates love dealing with you?
Ted: I am a very straight forward, and I don't like to dance around problems. I believe that honesty should always be key to your relationships, and when dealing with a client they should be treated with the same level of care and respect you would a family member.
Troy: What is something not many people know about you?
Ted: When I was a kid I wanted to be a professional wrestler
Troy: What is your favourite movie?
Ted: I cant pick just one!! My top 3 are Departed, Dumb and Dumber, and The Big Lebowski
Troy: What is your favourite drink?
Ted: While a nice cold beer is the easy choice, Ill dig a bit deeper... I would go with the Canadian Caesar. The Bloody Mary can not compete against the Caesar! The ingredients sound pretty disgusting, but it is an incredibly tasty drink. The Caesar is a legendary drink in Canada. It consists of: Clamato juice (a mix of clam and tomato juice), Tabasco sauce, Worcestershire sauce, a shot of vodka, and a dash of salt and pepper. Rim the glass with celery salt, and go nuts with the garnish. Sounds weird right?
Troy: Why do you love technology?
Ted: The constant change makes every day seem new. I am constantly learning new things that blow my mind, and keep me coming back.
We look forward to having you on the team Ted.
